Clinical Nutrition Protocol for Ramadan in Pakistan
Ramadan is a spiritual blessing, but culturally in Pakistan, it often turns into a month of deep-fried pakoras, sugar-laden red sherbets, and heavy sehri parathas that leave people fatigued, bloated, and gaining visceral fat.
1. The Ideal Sehri Blueprint
- **Hydration:** Drink 2-3 glasses of water between waking and Fajr.
- **Complex Carbs:** Rolled oats in milk with chia seeds OR 1 multi-grain roti with an egg.
- **Electrolytes:** 1 cup yogurt (Dahi) to prevent dehydration and maintain gut flora. Avoid salty pickles (achaar) which trigger intense thirst during the day.
2. The Smart Iftar Blueprint
- **Break Fast With:** 1 single date + 2 glasses of plain or lemon water.
- **The Golden 15-Minute Pause:** Wait 15 minutes before having the main meal. This allows leptin (satiety hormone) to signal the brain.
- **Say No to Daily Deep-Frying:** Replace fried pakoras with air-fried or baked chickpea chaat with homemade mint dahi.
